RICHMOND - Emylou Chute was among high school seniors from each of Virginia’s 11 congressional districts to win the 15th annual Harry F. Byrd Jr. Leadership awards.

Former U.S. Sen. Harry F. Byrd Jr. and Senior Virginia Supreme Court Justice Harry L. Carrico presented $10,000 checks Wednesday to the students during a ceremony at the Supreme Court Building in Richmond. Chute, from Culpeper, attends the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind.

Students were chosen for their leadership qualities, character, academic accomplishment and devotion to duty.
