I am emailing you to ask for your help in getting an important bill for the deaf and hard of hearing passed in Congress. This bill is HR 3101, the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2009. It does several things but my personal interest is the provision to extend closed captioning from regular TV to the internet. Why am I emailing you? This bill is stuck in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet. This Subcommittee is chaired by Rick Boucher, who represents your area (SW VA).
This bill can not move forward without Mr. Boucher’s support. Can you help by getting the word out to deaf and hard of hearing people in your area about it? We desperately need for deaf and hard of hearing people in your area to contact Mr. Boucher’s office to ask for support of HR 3101. His legislative director is Chris Davis, email@example.com. On Facebook, I lead Caption Action 2 in support of this bill: http://www.causes.com/captionaction2. Our blog is http://captionaction2.blogspot.com.
Thank you for any help you can give us. We need this bill passed to guarantee deaf and hard of hearing people an accessible future on the Internet!
