House Bill 1435 sailed through the Virginia House of Delegates yesterday. The vote was 95 in favor, 3 opposed. Legislators opposing the bill were David Nutter of Christianburg, Thomas D. Rust of Herndon, and R. Lee Ware of Powhatan. Del. Morefield of North Tazewell did not vote.
Before its passage, Northern Virginia Delegates Eileen Filler-Corn of Springfield and Adam Ebbin of Arlington joined Del. Ken Plum of Reston as Northern Virginia legislators who were patrons of the bill.
Now the legislation goes to the Senate for its deliberation and vote. It is in the Senate Committee on Education and Health. Passage in the Senate must occur before the General Assembly‘s 46-day session ends on Saturday, February 26, 2011.
