Family Camp in California for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children and Their Families
By Cheryl Heppner, 4/26/2012
Thanks to the Consortium for Communication Access via Captioning (CCAC) we learned about the DHH Family Camp (Camp Marston) in San Diego, California. It’s a place where families with deaf or hard of hearing children get together to play and learn from each other.
There’s a YouTube video approximately 2 ½ minutes long that is captioned. In this video, parent Melanie Doyle talks about her son, who was going to a school where he was the only child with hearing loss. She shares her realization that he needed a network of support from others – and that she needed one from other parents as well.
Joan Denney, who used free captioning software for the video from Overstream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?
