“I hate coming to Target,” Feta said, as the crowds streamed past and his kids chatted with friends passing by. “I’m so bored. I always end up on my phone.”

When Erin Fernsler caught up with them, Rowan didn’t want to go. He looked up at his dad and moved his fingers in the same motion over and over again.

“Why? Why? Why?” he asked, while signing the word.

“Because it’s time to go,” Feta signed back.

Rowan isn’t deaf. Neither is Surina. Feta and Erin are though.

• Campus-wide coordinating of services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals
• Hiring, training and supervision of interpreters
• Scheduling interpreters for classes and campus related events
• Provide direct interpreting services to deaf and hard of hearing individuals
• Review documentation and recommend appropriate accommodations for assigned caseload of students with disabilities

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or comparable field; 2 to 3 years of experience interpreting in a post-secondary educational setting; experience as an Interpreter Coordinator or equivalent leadership role with-in the field.  Candidates must hold a certificate of Interpretation (CI) or Certificate of Transliteration (CT) or National Interpreter Certification (NIC) as awarded by The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).  Qualified candidates must have strong supervisory skills and preferably a working knowledge of laws associated to serving students with disabilities in Higher Education.

2012 State Plan Public Hearings

 The Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) and the Virginia State Rehabilitation Council invite your attendance at a Public Forum to receive comment on the DRS Vocational Rehabilitation and Supported Employment Programs.  Each year, DRS (and all other states) prepare a State Plan that describes how Virginia provides rehabilitation services.  The State Plan is updated annually and must be submitted to the federal government by June 30 of each year. The draft of the State Plan will be available on the  DRS website at www.vadrs.org or the State Rehabilitation Council website at www.va-src.org. by April 15.  The following Public Forums will be held:
